Season’s greetings, it’s Christmas once again!
This week’s Tuesday Huesday post is topical, bright & festive. It features artwork by Willie Lonardo for the 1973 Harry Simeone Chorale It’s Christmas Once Again album cover.

We’ve just seen this record in a nearby antiques centre and liked its cover so much we took a couple of quick snaps.
Not being familiar with the work of Tommy Watt we didn’t actually buy it, but having given him a quick listen on Spotify it’s very 60s cocktail party with a bit of “Bewitched” and “I Dream of Jeannie” thrown in!
Taking another look at it, the artwork is very reminiscent of one of our favourite illustrators, Bill Charmatz.
It would look great in a small frame - we might go back for it!
We’ve been meaning to do a blog post about Bernard Buffet for a long time.
The recent purchase of this vintage poster brought it to mind once again. We had it sent from France and it advertises an exhibition held in 1969 at the Musée d’Unterlinden in Colmar.
It’s just come back from our wonderful local framers, Abacus. We chose burnished gold - reminiscent of an antique religious icon.
It now hangs above our bedroom fireplace. We love it!
We also framed these vinyl album covers that were illustrated by Buffet.
The set - Ella Fitzgerald sings Gershwin - dates from 1959.
Great records and great covers - a perfect combination.
He’s a fabulous artist - so distinctive - and one of our real favourites. Here’s a link to the online Musée Bernard Buffet…
…and here’s a 2-minute, black & white film from 1962 of Buffet and his wife, Annabel in their chateau and private chapel that we discovered on the British Pathé website - there’s so much beautiful art on the walls!

In our most recent e-mailout, we featured this somewhat eclectic mix if items seen below.
Amongst them was this fabulous record set… Escuchar y cantar or “Listen & sing”.
It’s a sing-a-long teaching aid for learning traditional Spanish songs, helping with pronunciation etc.
It comprises a set of records and an accompanying booklet written by Raymond N Jacovetti.
It was printed in New York by Holt, Rinehart & Winston and published in 1965.
The most striking feature is the gorgeous illustrations that the booklet is packed with.
They’re by someone called Mac Shepard.
We’ve never come across his work before, but we were immediate converts.
He’s got his own distinctive style, but if we were going to compare him to anyone it would be Bill Charmatz who we’re big fans of… click here to check out the Flickr group we started.
