We’ve not had the best of Christmases here in H is for Home world.
Frozen pipes for 10 days - followed by the inevitable burst pipes… and the pulling down of walls to find the leaks.
The snow also caused some serious postal delays for customers orders, which we couldn’t do much about but still felt responsible.
Add to that train travel chaos and a dose of swine ‘flu - it’s been pretty miserable!
One of the few things that brought a bit of joy was the lovely array of presents bought by loved ones - here’s a selection…
Main photo: Purple Rebel Swatch watch and Fred Perry black & purple vintage plimsolls
Hand thrown espresso cups by Devon-based potter Lisa Hammond
Welsh Furniture 1250-1950: A Cultural History of Craftsmanship and Design
Hand crocheted throw by Justin’s mum aka Granny Glittens…
…and Fudge wasn’t left out - shown here modelling his new winter jacket. (Drizabone Apsley wax dog coat)

In addition to our web shop we have an antiques centre pitch.

Following Bev & Tim’s efforts, it’s now looking wonderfully Christmas-y.

There’s a lovely tree and other festive decorations.

The window looks fab…

…with its selection of traditional vintage toys including board games, teddies, dolls and a gorgeous rocking horse.

Do pop by if you’re in the area - you may just find that perfect present!

Marks and Spencer are selling these Christmas biscuit selections…

…with gorgeous tins designed by Sanna Annuka.

Future classics with their vintage Scandinavian folk art feel.

She was responsible for this Swiss biscuit tin last Christmas - it’s currently changing hands for £15-£20… without the biscuits!

We’ve bought ours early this year - they’re sure to be popular again.

We’ll be giving a few tins as presents - but some will have to go under our own tree!!

They’ve also got a butter shortbread tin with a sweet little Scottie dog on the front.

We recently posted a blog featuring illustrations by Miroslav Sasek - we don’t know who designed this tin - but it also has a vintage feel is very reminiscent of his work.

Here are the actual illustrations from the book…

…published in 1961.

It’s not only going to be a tin-tastic Christmas in our house - looks like it’s going to be biscuit-tastic too!

Hope you all had a great Christmas.

We’ve had picturesque, snowy landscapes in these parts…

…this meant lovely walks throughout the holidays…

..with crackling fires, hot tea & mulled wine on our returns home.

It made this year’s Christmas very special.

We remembered to take our camera out with us quite a lot and captured some of the stunning scenery…

…and we even have a bit of action footage to share with you!!
Thanks for all your support & encouragement throughout 2009.

Wishing you all the very best for the year (and decade) ahead.

We’ve had a very nice mention in the January 2009 edition of Grand Designs magazine which came out this week.

The article’s called Last Orders and H is for Home is featured amongst their 50 favourite websites - with emphasis on websites for those late Christmas shopping ideas.
They highlighted a vintage 1960s tomato red Cathrineholm enamel coffeepot.

So it’s thanks to Grand Designs - we were really pleased to be featured as we’re big fans of both the magazine and the television programme.
